This post is a bit delayed but still wanted to write about our weekend getaway over July 4th weekend! Danny and I live for weekend getaways. We always look for places where we can go to quickly to be away from the busyness of the city and to be present in nature. Since we live in Illinois, our options sometimes are a bit limited.
This past 4th of July weekend we decided to go to Wisconsin with Maddy for her first road trip.
The drive was about 3 hours to Blanchardville, Wisconsin and it's relatively close to Devil's Lake as well. We used HomeAway and found the CUTEST home for our weekend stay. We were pretty much in the middle of nowhere and it was GREAT! I had never seen so many fireflies in my life, and we were finally able to see STARS again at night! One of the nights after we put Maddy to sleep, Danny and I just sat by the window and drank wine while watching the sunset and seeing the stars light up the night sky. I don't know why, but moments like those always rejuvenate my soul. It feels good to be surrounded by complete silence and to be still. To be reminded of the wonders of this earth that we so often take advantage of.
Our favorite area in the house was this little nook in the corner where we spent a lot of our time. I seriously want this in our future home!
We were able to stop by Devil's Lake briefly before Maddy had a meltdown, but was able to snap a few pictures and walk into the water before heading back home and going straight back to our favorite little nook in the house! Wish we were able to spend a little more time at the beach but we've learned that you always have to be flexible with a newborn. Hopefully next time! All in all it was a good weekend getaway with my little family and to be present with each other. Already thinking about where we can go next. Let us know if you have any Midwest weekend getaway recommendations!
